A joint venture of Electricidade de Mozambique (EDM) and South African group SASOL is planning to undertake the construction of a 400MW gas-fired thermal power plant in Temane, Inhambane, Mozambique.
The project involves the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, control rooms, switchyard, access roads and storage tanks, and the laying of Temane to Maputo transmission line.
In January 2016, the government of Mozambique allocated natural gas for the development of the project.
The project is expected to be funded by Work World Bank and African Development Bank.
EDM soon will announce an international investor who will take part in the development of the project.
A tender process underway for appointing the consulting firm who will be responsible for undertaking an Independent Market Study with the view for conducting an analysis of the domestic and regional electricity markets.
