Electricidade de Mozambique (EDM), in partnership with China State Grid Corporation (CSGC), Eskom and Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN) is planning to undertake the construction of 1,400km central to southern region electricity transmission lines in between the province Tete and Maputo in Mozambique.
The project involves the 600KV two transmission lines, substations, laying of transmission wires and installation of transmission towers.
The project is developed with joint venture formed by China State Grid Corporation (CSGC 46%), South African group Eskom (25%), Electricidade de Moçambique (EdM 15%) and Portuguese group Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN 14%).
Norconsult completed the feasibility study works by the fourth quarter of 2014.
In May 2015, Ministério para a coordenação da acção ambiental (MICOA) issue environmental approval.
EDM and partners are in the processes of obtaining required approvals to implement the project.
