The Department of Tourism, Sikkim (DoTS) is undertaking the construction of the skywalk project in Sikkim, India.
The project involves the construction of three 'finger' shaped glass Skywalks connected through a tunnel in the rocky spur of Baleydunga cliff, standing at an elevation of 3.1km.
It includes the construction of a tourist complex, accommodation center comprise 108 rooms, nature and spiritual complex, ropeway from dhapper to Bhaleydunga, and other tourism amenities and the installation of cable cars, and safety and security systems.
Grant Thornton LLP has completed the pre-feasibility studies of the project, and submitted the report to the Sikkim Government in the third quarter of 2009. Poma group has been awarded the construction contract for the ropeway.
In March 2010, project received funding of US$87 million from central government.
In June 2012, project was sanctioned a sum of US$36 million as the first installment.
On November 20, 2014, Lochsa Engineering was appointed as the main contractor for the project.
Construction works on the ropeway commenced in the third quarter of 2016.
Construction works on the project are underway with completion scheduled by December 2018.
