The Queensland Government, through the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DoTMR), is planning to undertake the Southern Freight Rail Corridor (SFRC) project which will connect the Western Rail line near Rosewood to the interstate rail line near Kagaru, north of Beaudesert in south east Queensland, Australia.
The project involves the construction of a 55km double-track railway line. It includes the construction of two tunnels of length 1,050m and 200m respectively, and ventilation shafts, and the installation of signal lights, electrical and firefighting equipment.
IRIS Visual Planning + Design has been appointed to prepare landscape and visual assessment as a part of the preliminary planning and impact assessment for the SFRC study. AECOM Australia has been appointed to undertake preliminary planning and impact assessment for the SFRC Study and Ernst & Young as the financial advisor.
In October 2008, DoTMR released draft assessment report for feedback.
In November 2009, DoTMR announced revised alignment.
In May 2010, DoTMR released the revised assessment report for public consultation.
In October 2010, final alignment was announced.
Upon completion of study activities, Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is in plans to announce tenders for design engineering for tunnels and double-track railway line.
