Summary

The Department for Social Development (DSD) in partnership with Carrickfergus Borough Council (CBC) and Carrickfergus Development Company (CDC) is planning to undertake the redevelopment of a town center in County Antrim, the UK.

The project involves the redevelopment of a town center. It will include the construction of residential units, commercial units, retail shops, restaurants, parks, streets, castle esplanade, arts and visitor centre, a linear park and a Tesco supermarket. The project is planned to be executed in four phases.

The first phase includes the redevelopment of Walled Town, the second phase includes the redevelopment of Waterfront, the third phase includes the redevelopment of Irish Quarter and the fourth phase includes the redevelopment of Scotch Quarter.

Paul Hogarth Company has been appointed as master planner, Nolan Ryan Tweeds Ltd as cost consultant, JMP Consultants Ltd Wyg as traffic consultant, Cleaver Fulton Rankin as legal advisor, DTZ Planning as planning consultant and CBRE as property management contractor.

In October 2011, CBC invited applications to establish a new public and private regeneration partnership to advise on and oversee the delivery of the Carrickfergus Master plan and associated projects and programmes for the Borough.

The total funding package of US$3 million for the scheme is funded by DSD.

In January 2012, FP McCann Ltd was appointed as supply contractor for the public realm scheme.

In January 2013, construction work on the public realm scheme was completed.

In June 2013, DSD announced further funding package of US$242,835 to improve the buildings along Lower North Street, Market Place, West Street and Castle Street.

On November 15, 2015, Antrim council welcomed a successful joint heritage lottery fund bid for US$1.8 million of investment in Carrickfergus redevelopment.

In January 8, 2016, Carrickfergus Town Centre Partnership (CTCP) was established to represent the views of all organisations and businesses within the Town Centre for the development of the project.

Three meetings were held on January19, February 16 and March 15, 2016 at Carrickfergus Civic Centre and Museum.

Planning activities are underway.
