The Danish Road Directorate (DRD) on behalf of Ministry of Transport (MoT) is planning to undertake the Third Limfjord Connection project to the west of Aalborg in Egholm line, Denmark.
The project involves the construction of 20 km of new motorway west of Aalborg via the island of Egholm. It includes the construction of a supporting wall and laying of electric lines pedestrian way, approaching roads and other related infrastructural facilities, and the installation of ventilation shafts, signaling, lightening systems and fire safety systems.
A public consultation was held between June 27, 2011 to August 31, 2011 to discuss on the three proposed alternatives for the project.
In June 2014, a majority in Parliament agreed to follow the Road Directorate option that the third Limfjord connection to be constructed west of Aalborg of Egholm.
COWI along with Danmarks Miljøundersøgelser (DMU) have been appointed as Study consultants.
The Egholm Line was chosen on the basis of the conducted appraisal and a trade off between the transport, environmental and financial implications, as well as economic profitability.
Planning activities are underway.
