Comet Biorefining, Inc. (Comet) in joint venture with Cellulosic Sugar Producers Cooperative (CSPC) is planning to build a bio-based chemicals plant in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.

The project involves the construction of a bio-based chemicals plant with a production capacity of 30,000TPA. It includes the construction of processing units, warehouses and related infrastructure, and the installation of machinery and equipment.

In February 2016, Comet selected Sarnia as project location by working together with Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC), the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) and Ontario farmers’ cooperative.

In March 2016, Comet received a grant of US$8 million from the Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC).

In November 2016, Comet partnered with Cellulosic Sugar Producers Cooperative (CSPC) for the development of the project which owns 40% stake in the bio refinery.

In March 2017, Comet received a grant of US$375,000 from Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC).

Planning activities are underway.
