Central Omega Resources (COR) and Macrolink Nickel Development (Macrolink) are undertaking the Omega Nickel Processing Smelter project in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The project involves the construction of nickel processing plant with annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) and being executed in two phases.
The first phase includes the construction of a nickel processing plant with 100,000TPA capacity and the US$350 million the second phase includes the construction of a nickel processing plant with 100,000TPA capacity and a US$150 million, 150MW power plant.
The project includes the construction of processing unit, warehouses, parking area, administrative office and the installation of fire safety system.
The raw material for the smelter will be used from its nickel mines in Central and Southeast Sulawesi.
In the first quarter of 2015, Macrolink Nickel Development, a subsidiary of Macrolink Group was appointed as a new partner for the project.
In February 2015, COR appointed China Machinery Import & Export Corporation (CMC) and China Machinery Industry Construction Group as EPC contractor for the project.
In March 2017, construction works on the first phase of the project was completed.
Planning activities on the second phase of the project are underway. Construction works are expected to commence in 2019.
