Summary

The Altalink Management Ltd (AltaLink) in collaboration with Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is undertaking the construction of a power transmission line project in Southern Alberta, Canada.

The project involves the construction of a 66–80km, 240kV double circuit transmission line connecting the Picture Butte substation to the proposed Journault sub station in Etzikom Coulee.

The development will feature steel lattice transmission structures of 44–60m-tall, 22–24m-wide with a 10–10m base. Each structure will be separated by an average distance of 365m.

The project will include the construction of a substation on the NE-15-7-17-W4, the laying of electric lines, the installation of electric feeder systems and other related infrastructure.

In January 2012, the preferred route for the project was announced and a series of public consultations were underway until the third quarter of 2013.

In December 2014, the SATR ordered AltaLink to stop the development activities on the project including site, routing and consultations as to initiate the process of applying to Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to amend the approval on the project.

Facility application approval expected on November 15, 2017. The project is expected to be completed by January 2020.
