Agence pour l'immobilier de la Justice (APIJ) is undertaking the renovation of the Baumettes Detention Center project in Marseilles, France.
The project involves the renovation and expansion of the existing Baumettes Detention Center on a 10ha area in two consecutive phases namely Baumettes 2 (phase I) and Baumettes 3 (phase II).
The phase I (Baumettes 2) of the project includes the construction of a new detention center on a 42,000m2 area with 573 places of which 300 places for men, 174 places for women, 60 places for young prisoners, a psychological service center with 39 places and other related facilities.
The phase II (Baumettes 3) of the project includes the renovation of the existing detention center with a capacity of 640 places and the construction of sports facilities, medical care facilities, administrative facilities, food courts and the installation of security systems and other related facilities
For the first phase, the design-build contract was awarded to a consortium led by Vinci Construction France composed of Travaux du Midi, Archi5 and Coteba in the second quarter of 2012.
Construction works on the first phase of the project commenced in July 2013.
In August 2016, APIJ launched the tender notice for design-build contract for the second phase.
In December 2016, construction works completed for the first phase of the project.
Study activities for the second phase are underway.
