Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is planning to undertake the construction of a rail line in Arizona, the US.
The project involves the construction of a high-speed rail line from Tucson to Phoenix.
The project will include the construction of stations, ticket counters, platforms, bridges, an administrative facility and related infrastructure, the installation of signaling and safety systems, and the laying of rail tracks.
Initially, ADOT came up with seven corridor alternatives in the initial screening, then three corridor alternatives in the second screening and finally two corridor alternatives in addition to a No Build Alternative in the third screening in the Draft Tier 1 EIS. The final EIS is anticipated to complete in the second quarter of 2016.
ADOT is considering two corridor alternative (orange and yellow line); in addition to a No Build Alternative options for the high-speed rail project.
The Orange Route includes a rail line connecting Loop 202 and Loop 101 and will follow a planned freeway linking the East Valley with I-10 near Eloy. The Yellow route includes a rail line through the East Valley to I-10 near Eloy.
ADOT is undertaking the public consultations on the two proposed routes. There is currently no construction schedule and no funding identified for a project to build a rail system between Tucson and Phoenix.
