The Aberdeen City Council (ACC) through a joint-venture with Aberdeen Football Club (AFC) is planning to undertake the construction of a new community stadium in the UK.
The project involves the construction of a 20,000-seat stadium on a 16ha area. The project will be developed in two phases. The first phase includes the construction of training facilities with two 3G pitches, three grass pitches and a single story gym at a cost of US$12 million.
It includes the construction of a club shop, a museum, a cafe, a ticket office, office space and community facilities, AFC football academy, a hotel and 1,400 space car parking facility, 100 space coach parking facility for buses and the installation of floodlights, safety and security systems.
AECOM has been appointed as environmental consultant, Gardiner & Theobald as PMC contractor, Wallace Whittle as service engineering consultant, Miller Partnership as design contractor, W.A. Fairhurst & Partners as civil and structural engineering consultant, and CB Richard Ellis as planning consultant for the project.
On August 17, 2011, Barr Construction was appointed as the design-build contractor for the project.
In June 2016, AFC submitted an application on relocation of site between Westhill and Kingswells.
On November 24, 2016, ACC and ACF held a public consultation and unveiled new information and images of the project.
On January 16, 2017, AFC submitted a planning application to the Aberdeen City Council.
Project is facing delays as the council has deferred the application after requesting further information from the club, with a decision now expected in October 2017.
