Polyolefin Plastomer (POP) is a copolymer obtained by polymerizing ethylene or propylene as the main unit and adding α-olefins (such as 1-butene, 1-hexene, 1-octene) as comonomers. POP has excellent bonding strength, tear resistance and transparency, and is widely used in the field of film preparation. Compared with polyolefin elastomer (POE), the comonomer content of POP is usually less than 20%, so its density is higher than POE.
The main application areas of POP include food packaging, medical and sanitary products, personal care products, hot melt adhesives, and film manufacturing. For example, POP can be used to produce packaging materials for fresh food, fresh meat, dairy products, etc., and most POP resins have been approved by the US FDA and can be directly used for food packaging. In addition, POP is also used for elastic film materials for diapers and sanitary products, and as a modifier for HDPE and PP.
POP has excellent physical properties and processing properties, and has good optical and mechanical properties. It is sensitive to shear rate, and its viscosity drops quickly at high shear rate, making it easy to process. At the same time, it has high static shear viscosity, good melt strength, and good bubble stability during film blowing. Compared with ULDPE or EVA, POP has excellent puncture resistance, impact strength, hot tack strength and transparency, and its density is lower than EVA or PVC.
