Analysis by Region - Emerging Markets - Botswana
Description
Botswana's economic prospects have become even bleaker as the turmoil in the global diamond industry persists. Diamond output, unsurprisingly, crashed in the second quarter of the year, prompting us to deepen the projected contraction of the landlocked economy to 0.8% this year. What's more, we expect a more muted recovery over the medium term. While Botswana's 'reciprocal' tariff was lowered to 15% from an initial 37%, the move has not materially altered our view of Botswana's economy.
