Spinel cathode materials, primarily LiMn₂O₄ (LMO) and LiNi₀.₅Mn₁.₅O₄ (LNMO), are characterized by a cubic spinel crystal structure offering high thermal stability and fast lithium-ion diffusion. LMO typically operates at ~4.0 V vs. Li/Li⁺ with a practical capacity of 100–120 mAh/g and tap density of 2.2–2.6 g/cm³, while LNMO operates at a higher voltage of ~4.7 V with 125–135 mAh/g capacity and 2.3–2.8 g/cm³ tap density. Particle sizes range from 1–10 µm, with surface area (BET) between 0.5–3.0 m²/g. These materials are black to gray powders with moisture content typically under 0.1%, and impurity levels (e.g., Fe, Cu) controlled below 200 ppm. Doped variants further enhance cycling stability and conductivity, making them ideal for EVs, power tools, and grid storage applications.
