U.S. and Worldwide Label and Packaging Press Forecast, 2015–2019
This IDC study quantifies the U.S and worldwide label and packaging (L&P) press opportunity in detail and analyzes trends and drivers. It includes digital label and packaging press shipments, value of shipments, and average selling values (ASVs).IDC is looking at the L&P market in a combined view because the packaging segment is still nascent in terms of shipments and market players. Currently, HP is selling the Indigo 20000 and the Indigo 30000, targeting flexible packaging and folding cartons. Xeikon is seeing some folding carton work being done on its 3000 series presses. Other vendors are going after packaging with their traditional document presses, such as Xerox offering a folding carton option on its iGen presses. Also, HP is using its high-speed T400 series inkjet for a new corrugated packaging solution."The worldwide label and packaging market is a crowded one and will grow even more so in 2015 and the next few years. Every major hardware vendor out there understands the huge opportunity that L&P has because the print suppression that exists for document printing does not exist when it comes to L&P. And the opportunity is indeed large because digital has only scratched the surface in terms of press installations and potential volumes," says Amy Machado, senior research analyst, Hardcopy Peripherals.
