This IDC study is a technology assessment of how scale-out technology is permeating AFA offerings across all vendors. It discusses the key features of scale-out storage architectures in 3rd Platform computing environments, and why end users are becoming more interested in these types of technologies. A key point of discussion is how vendors with scale-up architectural designs are incorporating traditional features of scale-out technologies to better meet performance, scalability, reliability, and endurance requirements with all-flash offerings."All seven of the top AFA vendors by revenue have made enhancements to their network storage platforms to offer scale-out benefits to greater or lesser degrees, regardless of whether their core designs are scale up or scale out," said Eric Burgener, research director for IDC's Storage Practice. "The demands of 3rd Platform workloads will force other vendors to offer similar capabilities, offering customers a better overall value proposition in general-purpose primary storage arrays."
