Seven Practices for Fostering Enterprise Digital Transformation
This IDC study describes seven practices of very successful digital enterprises and discusses approaches that businesses can take to adopt them. The study enables IT and LOB executives to identify key differences between their businesses and digital transformers and to consider how their own businesses might benefit from adopting one or more of the practices. The study answers three questions about the practices of companies that are digital transformers:What internally and externally focused practices make digital transformers different from traditional enterprises? How are transformers using and benefiting from those practices? How can businesses begin to adopt these practices?"For most businesses, aspiring to become the next Google or Amazon is not an option. Yet, becoming more "Google- or Amazon-like" is possible by cherry-picking practices that can work within the context of the culture and mission of the business. Digital transformation requires a radical rethink of a business from top to bottom, inside to outside. Studying those firms that have had the luxury of building "purpose built" digital transforming businesses is a good place to start in fashioning that rethink," says Marc Strohlein, adjunct research advisor with IDC's Research Network.
