Outsourcing in an As-a-Service World: Security, Data Ownership, and Governance

This IDC Perspective is one of a four-part series and examines the changes in the outsourcing model that will change as a result of cloud computing and cloud services. IDC worked with the Centre for Outsourcing Research and Education to assess this hypothesis, in terms of impact on people, pricing and costs, security and governance, and automation of service delivery.Security is the most important hinderance to cloud adoption for most organizations and the topic of security has risen to the board of directors in organizations of all sizes. "Organizations that are well versed in sourcing externally managed services appear to be planning appropriately for using cloud services in a secure manner by learning from their experiences in outsourcing to effectively govern the relationships with cloud providers," according to Jason Bremner, vice president, Industry and Business Solutions.
