The Changing Role of IT Leadership: CIO Perspectives for 2016
This IDC study uses the results of IDC's 2015 CIO Sentiment Survey and IDC's 2015 LOB Sentiment Survey to examine the perception of IT, the changing role of IT leadership from being an operational player to a strategic partner, and how to leverage IDC's Leading in 3D framework to thrive in digital transformation.
Today's business leaders are challenged by digital business transformation in which their enterprises must employ digital technologies coupled with organizational, operational, and business model innovation to create new ways to operate and grow. Given the dependence on both technology and information required for a successful transformation, CIOs should play an important role. However, these surveys highlight the need for a continuous change in IT leadership.
"Our research is showing a fundamental shift in the role of CIOs as seen by themselves and the business because of the 3rd Platform and digital transformation," says Mike Jennett, vice president of research for Enterprise Mobility in IDC's IT Executive Program. "While many CIOs have embraced this change, there are still a large percentage that will benefit from evaluating their organizations as well as their relationship with their business counterparts as they continue on this journey."
