HKT has demonstrated that it is possible to curtail fixed line voice churn by introducing multimedia Rich Communications Services in such a way that it does not substitute fixed wireless, while also growing the overall ARPUs. "HKT has also shown the industry that the smart home gateway and the media platform can be converged to provide a path to develop various next-generation services including IoT, enterprise cloud, and 5G", says Bill Rojas, Adjunct Research Director, IDC Asia/Pacific. He further adds that "convergence, which was overhyped about five years ago, is now taking on importance as 5G and fixed broadband access and transport will be aggregated into software-defined networking architecture in order to provide agility and scale."
