This IDC study provides an overview and analysis of M&A deals in 2Q16 across all major sectors of the information and communication technology industry, including enterprise applications, enterprise IT infrastructure, digital media, telecommunications, IT services, and semiconductors and components. "Following a slowdown in the first quarter of the year, tech M&A activity appears to be stabilizing at relatively high levels with vendors and PE firms showing a strong appetite for strategic acquisitions. Although ongoing global economic volatility and political instability after the Brexit may impact IT spending, IDC believes that the move to the 3rd Platform is strong enough to withstand the current uncertainty as it offers a pathway to a technological model that could bring significant cost-savings. Furthermore, the 3rd Platform is a disruptive force that in many ways changes the traditional balance of forces in the broad ICT industry, pushing the market incumbents to a buy-or-die state of mind. In light of these conflicting trends, IDC believes that tech M&A activity will continue to pick up in the second half of 2016 but will not reach the record levels of the last couple of years." — Dan Yachin, research director, IDC EMEA Emerging Technologies
