Description

The global NDIR (Non-Dispersive Infrared) Gas Sensors market size is expected to reach $ 1718 million by 2032, rising at a market growth of 7.3% CAGR during the forecast period (2026-2032).

NDIR gas sensors use the infrared absorption properties of gas molecules (e.g., CO2) to calculate their concentration. Therefore, the NDIR gas sensor is equipped with an infrared light source that emits infrared rays and an infrared sensor that detects infrared rays. The infrared light is directed at the gas in the measuring tube and part of the light is absorbed by the gas molecules to be measured. Subsequently, the rest of the infrared light hits the filter and reaches the infrared detector. Ideally, only the gas to be measured absorbs light of the corresponding wavelength. However, since the gas mixture contains a variety of gases, the absorption regions may overlap, thus enhancing cross sensitivity. The interference part must either be tested for compensation (to avoid false measurements) or avoided by clever selection of spectral ranges. With the NDIR sensor, more than 100 different gases can be detected from ppm to percentage. In many applications, this is the preferred method because the measurement method is non-contact and non-consuming.

In 2024, global NDIR (Non-Dispersive Infrared) Gas Sensors sales volume reached approximately 11.5 million units, with an average global market price of around 82.3 US$ per unit.

R1: NDIR sensor products are mainly used in environmental monitoring, industrial safety, medical equipment, residential and commercial safety, power industry, scientific research and other fields. Although the industry is developing well at present, if the enterprise cannot carry out technological research and development upgrades in a timely manner, effectively expand the market, and grasp the opportunities for industry development, it will affect the market influence and operating performance of the enterprise to a certain extent. There is a risk that the company's technology and sales will lag behind due to the rapid development of industry technology.

R2: The core technology and core technicians of an enterprise are an important part of the company's core competitiveness. If the research and development results of the enterprise are compromised or infringed, it will have a negative impact on the production and operation of the enterprise. If the core technicians leave the company or privately disclose the company's technical secrets, it may still have a certain impact on the company.

R3: The market is highly fragmented and competition among enterprises is fierce. If the enterprise cannot further enhance production, R&D and sales capabilities, improve the company's management level and adjust the strategic layout in a timely manner, the business and profitability will be affected to a certain extent.

1. Stringent Environmental & Emission Regulations

Governments worldwide are enforcing tougher emission limits for greenhouse gases (GHGs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), refrigerants, and industrial effluents, which drives demand for reliable gas-detection technologies.

Industries such as oil & gas, chemicals, power generation, mining and manufacturing increasingly adopt NDIR sensors to comply with regulatory monitoring.

The rising regulatory focus on indoor air quality (IAQ) and controlled environments in commercial/residential buildings also adds impetus for CO₂ sensors (a major NDIR segment).

2. Growth of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), HVAC and Smart Building Systems

As building automation and “smart building” technologies become more prevalent, continuous monitoring of CO₂, occupancy-linked ventilation and indoor pollutant levels is increasingly required. NDIR sensors are a preferred solution for measuring CO₂ concentration in

In commercial real estate, schools, hospitals and offices, the push to improve ventilation, reduce energy consumption and monitor air quality supports demand for compact, low-cost NDIR modules.

3. Industrial Safety & Process Monitoring

Industries where hazardous or flammable gases are present (e.g., petrochemical, oil & gas, mining, metallurgical) rely on gas-detection systems to ensure worker safety, prevent leaks/explosions, and monitor process emissions. NDIR sensors, with their non-contact optical measurement and relatively low maintenance, are well-suited for these scenarios.

As automation and process intensification continue, gas-monitoring solutions become more integrated—driving NDIR sensor adoption.
