Global Inboard Marine Propulsion System Market 2025 by Manufacturers, Regions, Type and Application, Forecast to 2031

According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Inboard Marine Propulsion System market size was valued at US$ 28430 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of USD 33820 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 2.5% during review period.

An inboard marine propulsion system is a professional propulsion system for boats. As opposed to an outboard motor where an engine is mounted outside the hull of the craft, an inboard motor is an engine enclosed within the hull of the boat, usually connected to a propulsion screw by a driveshaft.

The marine propulsion engines market is driven by the need for faster, cleaner, and more fuel-efficient engines. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has drawn up new rules to reduce the sulfur content in marine fuels from 3.5% to 0.5%. This new regulation is expected to reduce ship emissions by 77%. This development has prompted ship operators to reduce the sulfur content of fuels such as marine gas oil, thereby driving the demand for ship electrification. Currently, there are about 100,000 ocean-going commercial vessels sailing the oceans, each with an installed power of about 1 to 100 megawatts (MW). With very few exceptions, all of these vessels are diesel propulsion, most of them with direct drive systems, and some with diesel-electric propulsion or hybrid systems. Diesel engines are favored for marine propulsion applications due to their unrivaled power and torque ratings
