Description
India Construction Market Size, Trend Analysis by Sector (Commercial, Industrial, Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities, Institutional and Residential) and Forecasts, 2022-2026
Summary
GlobalData has revised up its estimate of the growth of the Indian construction industry in 2022 - with the industry now expected to expand by 6.6% in real terms this year, compared to a prior estimate of a 5.8% growth. This upward revision is attributed to increased government investment and an improvement in wider economic activity. According to the MoSPI, the construction industry’s value add grew by 7.5% in the first nine months of the year, owing to improving economic conditions and an increase in construction output in both the public and private sector. However, risks to the outlook are relatively significant, including the profound shocks and unprecedented uncertainty caused by the Russia-Ukraine war and the subsequent rise in inflation, supply chain disruption, financial market volatility and construction material costs.
Over the remainder of the forecast period, the Indian construction industry is expected to register an average annual growth of 6.1% between 2023 and 2026, supported by investment on transport, electricity and housing projects. As part of the INR100 trillion ($1.3 trillion) Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Master Plan, announced in October 2021, India’s infrastructure will be developed, driving economic growth over the coming 25 years. Moreover, the industry will be further supported by investment in the renewable energy sector, in line with the government’s aim to increase renewable energy capacity from 145.2GW in 2021 to 175GW in 2022 and 500GW by 2030; with an estimated investment of INR20-22 trillion ($259.1-285 billion). Further support for construction activity will be generated by the government’s focus on improving the ease of doing business in India. As part of its latest budget, the government announced that 5G spectrum auctions will be conducted in 2022, to facilitate the rollout of 5G services by private telecommunication providers in the next fiscal year
