The shigella test kit consists of tests and kits used to detect the presence of shigella bacteria in a clinical setting. The bacterium, if present in human stool, causes the disease shigellosis in patients, which is characterized by diarrheal symptoms, such as watery stools and fever. It uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology to amplify the target Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sequence and produce a detectable signal, which is then read by a reader or analyzed by using a laboratory computer. It is a rapid, simple, and cost-effective method of testing for shigella. The test is also useful for identifying infections that are similar to shigellosis, including diarrheal illness and other infections which are caused by bacteria such as salmonella, campylobacter, E. coli, clostridium difficile, and others.
Market Dynamics:
The market is expected to grow at a strong pace over the forecast period. The market growth is driven by the increasing incidence of gastrointestinal infections and diseases. Rising demand for point of care (POC) testing for gastrointestinal disorders and cancers is also driving the market growth. Moreover, the increasing awareness about the benefits of shigella testing is again propelling the market growth. Furthermore, technologically advanced molecular diagnostics are further supporting the global shigella test kit market growth.
However, lower sensitivity of this kit as compared to the lab test is expected to restrict the market growth of the global shigella test kit market.
