Global e-Commerce Index and Market Developments
The global e-Commerce market is projected to be worth USD2.3trn in 2019, with double digit growth projected over the medium term to 2022. Asia continues to dominate in terms of e-Commerce sales value, worth a projected USD1.2trn, of which China accounts for more than 70%. MENA offers the strongest growth potential, with the region developing from a lower base and not yet experiencing the levels of e-Commerce saturation that are becoming apparent in North America and Western Europe. Frontier markets continue to lag, plagued by logistics challenges, low disposable incomes and lack of e-Commerce capabilities, but developments are underway and e-Commerce players are showing a desire to adapt to these challenges, initiating strategies on a country by country basis, rather than utilising the templates that worked in the North America or Europe.
This report covers 68 markets globally, organized by regions, allowing readers to examine the development outlook for e-Commerce and the ease with which e-Commerce players can set up operations in a certain country.
Analysis is centred upon our proprietary e-Commerce sales forecasts (2018-2022) and the Fitch Solutions e-Commerce Index which quantifiably assesses the opportunities and risks for e-commerce by country and region (measures include e-Commerce demand, consumer characteristics, political, economic and logistics risk and e-Commerce infrastructure). The report also includes our key themes to watch in 2019 and a Datapack including all Fitch Solutions’ proprietary e-commerce forecasts (2018-2022) and the Fitch Solutions e-Commerce Index.
