Global & India Ultrasound Market to 2031
Description
The ultrasound market in India is significantly shaped by a national healthcare strategy that emphasizes modernization and technological self-sufficiency. Government initiatives aimed at enhancing medical infrastructure and broadening healthcare access to both urban and rural populations play a crucial role in this evolution. A prominent trend is the government's advocacy for 'Make in India' and 'Made for the World' policies, which encourage domestic production of medical devices to decrease reliance on imports and stimulate local innovation.
As reported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in July 2025, the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has a budget of approximately US$ 410.95 million dedicated to boosting the domestic manufacturing of medical devices. This initiative particularly supports the production of advanced equipment, including ultrasound machines, and by March 2025, it has facilitated the creation of 54 products that were previously reliant on imports. This shift is fostering domestic innovation and promoting the development of more sophisticated, locally manufactured ultrasound equipment.
Additionally, the Annual Report 2024–2025 from the Ministry highlights significant advancements in public health infrastructure, with the number of operational Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) centers reaching 172,148 by the end of the fiscal year 2023–2024. These centers are increasingly equipped with diagnostic tools. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is also pivotal, as it aims to create a digital health ecosystem that integrates data from new ultrasound devices into patients' digital health records, enhancing efficiency and accessibility.
