Analysis by Region - Emerging Markets - Tanzania
Description
Tanzania was rocked by deadly election-related protests this past quarter, tarnishing its reputation for peace and stability and raising concerns about potential aid withdrawals. The EU has already called for the suspension of a $181m aid package, while the US is reviewing its relationship with the East African nation. Given the high stakes, we expect that President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her administration will intervene and attempt to salvage the situation. Failure to do so could significantly hinder the government's ability to achieve its development goals.
