Description

Mozambique's economy suffered a major setback in Q4 2024 when violent protests erupted country-wide following the disputed election. The impact of the turmoil continued to drag down economic growth in Q1 2025, while the prevailing global economic uncertainty stemming from the global trade war has dimmed the country's economic prospects. Our baseline view is that the Trump administration's unpredictable tariff regime will sustain this uncertainty for the remainder of the year. As a result, we have lowered our real GDP growth forecast for 2025 to 2.0% from our previous prediction of 3.2%.
