Analysis by Region - Africa - Egypt
Description
In December, the focus turns towards the IMF’s visit to complete the fifth and sixth review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme. The finalisation of the fifth review was delayed earlier this year, with several possible reasons identified, all of which will be tested in the upcoming visit. Some reasons given for the delay were the slow progress in the government’s privatisation drive, a delay in the Qatar investment deal, and an audit request of the governance of Egypt’s state banks. The Qatari investment deal was announced in November, while the government has reportedly made progress on selling state assets.
