The prospect of much higher inflation and more aggressive tightening of monetary policy has led us to slash our forecast for 2022 GDP growth to 3.8% from 4.5% last month. A 54% rise in the energy price cap means we now expect CPI inflation to hit 7.5% in April, and the MPC’s hawkish rhetoric suggests that Bank Rate will rise to 1.0% by May and 1.25% by end-2022.
