Worldwide Wireless Connectivity Technologies Forecast, 2018-2022
This IDC study provides data for the wireless connectivity market for 2017–2022, with analysis and commentary. The wireless connectivity market continues to expand as WiFi, Bluetooth, 802.15.4, and other technologies continue to make their way into more systems."Each technology has its strengths and keeps evolving to become more competitive with other wireless connectivity technologies," says Phil Solis, research director for Wireless and Mobile Connectivity Technologies. "Bluetooth dominates audio, but WiFi will be increasingly used to stream audio, even to some headphones. Bluetooth 5 added mesh networking, which makes it more viable for smart home applications that are dominated by Zigbee and Z-Wave. While WiFi's 802.11ax protocol will allow for higher speeds and especially higher overall network capacity than ever, it can also be used with lower-cost, lower-power consumption chipsets using smaller, narrower amounts of spectrum, allowing it to become more competitive for smart home and other IoT applications."
