Worldwide Database Management Systems Software Market Shares, 2020: The Enterprise Journey to the Cloud
This IDC study contains revenue performance by vendor for the worldwide database management systems (DBMSs) software market, as well as vendor shares for each of the submarkets, which include data lake management systems, in-memory shared data managers, low-code DBMS, navigational DBMS, non-schematic DBMS, and relational DBMS. This data is reported for 2018–2020 and includes analysis of performance during that period by both current (as reported) currency and constant currency. It also includes vendor guidance, analysis of what shaped the market, including key vendors in 2020, and significant market events."The database management systems market is under pressure from multiple directions: cloud migration, IoT and other rapid streaming data sources, a rich variety of database models, the increasing desire to mix transactions and analytics, and an evolving approach to large-scale data collections, such as data lakes," said Carl Olofson, research vice president for Data Management Software research at IDC. "Vendors are reacting in various ways. Some are blending more functionality together, taking a multimodel approach to databases, others are promoting specialized single-model DBMSs. Some are combining data warehouse and data lake functionality with an overarching 'lake house' capability, while others are keeping them segregated."
