Western Europe Collaborative Applications Market Shares, 2014: A Fast-Growing Market
This IDC study examines the revenue performance of several vendors in the collaborative applications market for 2014.The top 5 vendors in 2014 based on Western European revenue were Microsoft, IBM, Google, Cisco, and Intralinks. Together these vendors accounted for 68.4% of the total market value. File synchronization and sharing (FSS) and enterprise social networks (ESNs), including communities, performed well in 2014. Email applications, a very mature market, experienced the slowest growth in 2014.The Western European collaborative applications software market continues to grow at double-digit rates. This growth comes from what IDC calls the 3rd Platform, with technology innovations based on cloud, mobility, Big Data, and social business being embedded in many, if not all, new collaboration offerings. As a result, we are seeing the market being disrupted and vendor offerings converging to deliver more than a communication channel — collaboration offerings are connecting the enterprise ecosystem with customers, employees, partners, and suppliers using compatible technologies to enable seamless real-time communication, in-context exchanges of information, and integrated social workflow. "Cloud and mobile solutions have introduced new dynamics to a once steady and mature market," said Jan van Vonno, senior research analyst, IDC European Social Business and Collaboration Solutions. "In Europe, we are seeing collaboration and productivity becoming a top business priority for many organizations. It frequently falls into the digital transformation agenda of organizations that are aiming to renew business processes and streamline operations. These initiatives are usually paired with cultural changes as modern collaboration solutions provoke increased engagement from employees, partners, and customers alike."
