Responding to the Real-Time Data Imperative with Apache Kafka and Apache Pulsar
This IDC Perspective discusses the streaming data imperative and two open source technologies — Apache Kafka and Apache Pulsar — used for streaming data movement. The demand for real-time data movement to enable actionable business decisions will continue to grow. Stream processing will continue to take a large share from batch processing. Organizations need to understand where streaming is more appropriate than batching, find use cases to support streaming development, choose the enabling technologies, and potentially partner with commercial technology vendors that can provide support. "Investment in streaming data technologies will continue to grow as the real-time data imperative impacts businesses and how they make decisions and take action to respond in real time to market forces," said Amy Machado, research manager, Streaming Data Pipeline. "The movement of streaming data requires Apache Kafka or Apache Pulsar, and IT departments have the opportunity to test and chose which technology works best for its real-time use cases."
