LTE Advanced and the Acceleration Towards 5G in Asia/Pacific

This IDC Technology Assessment provides an overview of 3GPP Carrier Aggregation and the LTE Advanced road map as well as deployments in Asia/Pacific. "LTE enhancements from Releases 11–13 and beyond will provide more scalability, more capacity via the utilization of carrier aggregation with unlicensed 5GHz ISM spectrum and the ability for MNOs to better utilize fragmented spectrum assets as well as more capacity for fixed wireless substitution. Nevertheless, the leading MNOs in Asia/Pacific are not satisfied to stop there and have already begun testing pre-5G systems in preparation for 5G commercial launches around 2019 to 2021," says Bill Rojas, adjunct director, Telecom Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
