Japan Edge/Fog Computing Trends Analysis 2016: Decentralized Cooperative and Data-Centric IoT Platform
This IDC study discussed the role, function, and future impact of edge/fog computing in the age of Internet of Things (IoT), and analyzed edge/fog computing-related efforts by vendors in Japan. Edge/fog computing is similar in concept to cloud computing, and is in fact a supplemented and expanded version of that technology. Although edge/fog computing itself is not a new concept, it is again gaining attention in the context of IoT."Edge/fog computing is crucial for using ICT to link people and things distributed widely throughout society. It will also develop into wide area distributed cooperative platforms for IoT and data distribution platforms. Vendors and user companies involved in IoT will need to be aware of the important roles that edge/fog computing will play in the future," says Yoko Ono, senior market analyst, Communications, IDC Japan.
