Japan Datacenter Power Consumption 2014: Challenges of Energy-Efficiency at Datacenters

This IDC study, estimates (for 2013) and forecasts (for 2018) the power consumption at Japan datacenters (DCs). Based on the estimated power consumption, it also calculates the average power usage effectiveness (PUE) for 2013 and 2018 in order to analyze the pending issues pertaining to DC power consumption.

As the electricity cost increases in Japan, it is difficult to obtain sufficient effects of power saving by simply improving the performance of individual facilities such as IT equipment and cooling facilities. “It is important to improve the energy efficiency of IT and facilities from a comprehensive perspective in order to further reduce power consumption at DCs,” analyses Mimei Ito, research manager, IT Services, IDC Japan.
