Japan Cognitive/Artificial Intelligence Systems Spending Forecast Update, 2017−2021
This IDC study provides an update of results from the Japan cognitive/artificial intelligence (AI) systems market in 2016 and a forecast (based on spending) for the same market from 2017 to 2021. Many of the projects being undertaken in this market in 2016 were in the POC stage, leaving the market small. Nevertheless, IDC forecasts that this market will expand rapidly as these projects move from the POC phase to actual deployment in business from 2017 onward. IDC Japan Group Director Takashi Manabe states, "Although cognitive/AI systems will be driven by the rise to prominence of digital transformation, the vague expectations and sense of threat that user companies have toward AI will inhibit that growth. IT suppliers should strengthen consulting on the aims and effects of deploying live business systems with cognitive/AI systems, support systems for the provision or creation of appropriate teaching data, and support systems for the development of software that enables user companies to use cognitive/AI systems in their existing work."
