The IT Infrastructure of Telecom Network Virtualization
This IDC study presents leading IT infrastructure approaches for telecommunications network virtualization. Among buyers and suppliers, a variety of possible combinations exist. In trials and deployments, two to three approaches are emerging, each of which will have specific operational implications for the reliability and scalability of the connectivity and services delivered by telecommunications SPs.
NFV has momentum because the IT industry experience with advanced hyperscale and cloud environments has driven a faster-paced, results-oriented approach to innovation by telecommunications SPs and their network infrastructure suppliers, said Elisabeth Rainge, research vice president, CSP Operations. As more IT infrastructure suppliers begin to market their products to the network teams of telecommunications service providers, a key challenge facing buyers is to understand the operational implications of network functions virtualization infrastructure (NFVI) choices.
