IDC PeerScape: Manufacturing Practices for the Deployment of Workloads in Cloud in Asia/Pacific
This IDC study examines the best practices in deploying workloads on cloud in the manufacturing industry. Based on our research, 50% of the global manufacturing organizations will adopt cloud for managing manufacturing designs and quality management systems. Cloud is an extremely important element of smart manufacturing ecosystem, and the task of choosing the right cloud vendor or the applications to be deployed is extremely crucial for the complete organizational setup. The role of choosing and selecting appropriate applications to be deployed has to be done at a centralized location preferably by the CIO rather than to be left to the discretion of individual LOBs. The practices presented in this document provides a framework for relevant decision makers to identify and prioritize the right applications."Manufacturing organizations need to make sure that there is a compelling reason for cloud deployments for their business applications. Cloud adoption for the sake of being 'one with the crowd' will not be beneficial. And in some cases, even with a supported ecosystem, manufacturing organizations may not choose to deploy critical applications on cloud due to associated risks on their productivity and profitability," says Sampath Kumar Venkataswamy, research manager, IDC Manufacturing Insights.
