Fixed Wireless Access in the Emerging 5G Era
Fixed wireless access (FWA) is not a new concept. Indeed, its previous avatars have used cellular technologies, WiMAX, and other available alternatives to offer a modicum of connectivity to the last mile. However, several factors have come together in recent years to push FWA back into the limelight. These include the emergence of new technologies, such as Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and 5G, the availability of new spectrum bands, a relatively economical broadband network rollout, a budding device ecosystem driven by 3GPP, and so on, says Shiv Putcha, contributing analyst, IDC Asia/Pacific.
