U.S. Consumer Video Services Subscription Forecast, 2020–2024

This IDC study presents a forecast revenue derived from paid consumer video services subscriptions in the United States, inclusive of traditional pay TV and OTT video, through 2024. The dimensions covered in the forecast include U.S. subscription revenue for consumer traditional pay TV services and OTT video services. Also included in this study is a segmentation of virtual pay TV subscription revenue as part of the linear video services subscription forecast."IDC estimates that U.S. consumer subscription revenue for traditional pay TV and OTT video services totaled nearly $124 billion at the end of 2019," says Greg Ireland, research director, TV and OTT Video at IDC. "While consumer spending on OTT services remains a fraction of spending on traditional pay TV, to date it has been enough to drive overall service subscription revenue growth amid accelerating cord-cutting. IDC expects OTT subscription revenue to finally overtake traditional pay TV subscription revenue in 2024."
