Web Domain Name Sales
Commerce has continually shifted toward the internet over the past decade and, with it, the Web Domain Name Sales industry has grown to support the continual rush of new enterprises and individuals using the internet to pursue new markets. Businesses' mounting demand for internet presence, coupled with individuals' increasing desire for personal web space, has driven revenue growth for web domain registrars over the five years to 2018. Profitability continues to be a challenge for this industry. GoDaddy Operating Company LLC, the industry's largest player, operated at a loss until 2015; since then, the company's profit margins have not surpassed 3.0% of revenue. With the recently announced expansion of web domain name suffixes, or generic top-level domains, the industry is set to expand to new frontiers over the five years to 2023. In 2013, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers announced the introduction of new web domain suffixes that are being rolled out on an ongoing basis.
This industry sells internet domain names that define an owned collection of resources. Companies in this industry do not provide internet access services.
