The Book Publishing industry has undergone some restructuring over the five years to 2018 to adapt to evolving consumer preferences. While technological changes in the industry have facilitated the proliferation of digital book development and retailing, operators have yet to balance print and digital books. Over the five years to 2023, publishers will increase investment in the internet and other media outlets to directly interact with consumers and boost e-book sales. However, according to Publishers Weekly, recent sales have pointed to a re-emerging preference of consumers for purchasing physical books.

Book publishers also engage in marketing activities and make distribution agreements with operators in the Book, Magazine and Newspaper Wholesaling industry (IBISWorld report 42492).
