Description

Market At-A-Glance
The U.S. ambulatory surgery center (ASC) market was valued at $44.5 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to $103.4billion by 2034. Meanwhile, ASC patient volumes are expected to grow 21% between 2024 and 2034, driven by clinical innovations, payer pressures and consumer preference for outpatient services.

In the first quarter of 2025, more than 12,100 ASCs operated in the U.S., including nearly 6,500 Medicare-certified facilities. More than half of all ASCs (54%) have one or two operating rooms in 2025.

Procedures Continue To Shift From Hospital Settings To ASCs
Single-specialty ASCs continue to dominate the market, with endoscopy, ophthalmology and gastroenterology representing leading specialties. A large share of ASC leaders expressed interest in expanding into spine and total joint specialties in 2025.

Over the last ten years, colonoscopies experienced a major service line shift from hospitals to ASCs as technology improvements made it possible to perform more minimally invasive procedures in outpatient facilities. Even higher acuity cardiology procedures are gaining traction in ASC settings, with one projection predicting that 33% of cardiology cases will be provided in ASCs in 2025.
