Description
Austria Construction Market Size, Trends and Forecasts by Sector - Commercial, Industrial, Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities, Institutional and Residential Market Analysis, 2022-2026
Summary
The construction industry in Austria is expected to expand by 1.8% in real terms in 2022, following annual growth of 4.7% in 2021, supported by public and private sector investment in the country’s transport infrastructure. However, the Russia-Ukraine crisis and the subsequent surge in fuel prices could weigh on industrial and construction output in the short term.
Over the remainder of the forecast period, the Austrian construction industry is expected to register an annual average growth of 2% between 2023-26, supported by the government’s focus on the development of infrastructure, as well as energy and utilities construction projects. Infrastructure construction will be driven in part by the government’s 2030 Mobility Master Plan, under which the government, with the support of the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), plans to invest EUR1.6 billion ($1.8 billion) in developing railway infrastructure and the e-vehicle sector by 2030.
The industry’s output over the forecast period will also be supported by the government’s focus on improving regional connectivity through the development of the country’s rail and road transport infrastructure, coupled with its efforts to boost energy production. The government formulated the Austrian Stability Program 2021-25 in 2021 in order to promote climate neutrality. EUR30 million ($33.8 million) has been planned to invest in both 2022 and 2023 and EUR35 million ($39.5 million) in 2024 to promote climate neutrality. In order to equip the rural regions of the country with gigabit-capable internet connections by 2030, in February 2022, the government allocated EUR1.4 billion ($1.6 billion) to provide 5G services by 2023 and nationwide gigabit connections by 2025.
