Pharmaceutical Packaging
Description
Pharmaceutical Packaging
US demand for pharmaceutical packaging is projected to rise 5.2% per year to $29.9 billion in 2024. Primary containers will make up more than two-thirds of this amount, with the balance contributed by closures, secondary containers, labels, and packaging accessories. Pharmaceutical packaging demand will grow somewhat faster than the overall value of end-use product shipments as drug makers upgrade the barrier, security, and functional features of their packaging systems. The development of new advanced therapies for cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, and viral diseases will also broaden the need for higher value-added pharmaceutical packaging products.
This report covers pharmaceutical packaging demand by product and application. Data statistics are presented in value terms (US dollars, priced at the manufacturers’ level) for all products, with unit demand also provided for containers, closures, labels and selected packaging accessories. The report also identifies leading industry participants and examines the major trends and factors that will impact pharmaceutical packaging demand going forward.
Demand is broken out for the following products:
Primary Containers
Plastic & Glass Bottles (standard, dispensing, jars, & cans)
Blister Packaging (compartment, slide, & wallet)
Parenteral Containers (prefillable syringes, vials, IV containers, ampuls)
Prefillable Inhalers (dry powder inhalers & metered dose inhalers)
Pouches (foil, plastic, & paper)
Medication Tubes (composite, all-plastic, & collapsible metal)
Other Primary Containers (strip packs, paperboard boxes, & miscellaneous containers)
Secondary Packaging Products
Closures (specialty, child-resistant, & standard)
Secondary Containers (folding paperboard boxes & cartons, corrugated shipping containers, prescription
containers, & various miscellaneous containers)
Labels (pressure-sensitive, heat-shrink, & other)
Package Inserts
Intelligent Components (temperature indicators, RFID tags, & other)
Shrink Materials (wraps and bands)
Tamper-Evident Seals
Desiccants (silica gel, activated clay, polymer, and other)
Other (including shipping materials & supplies)
