Consumer Financial Service Trends: United States
Description
This report provides US consumer financial service trends in real 2022 US dollars for 2016, 2019, and 2022. The data is provided by category in terms of:before-tax family income, family net worth, family assets (financial and nonfinancial),family debt (distributed by purposed of debt and by debt institution)
The data in this report are primarily from the Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF), which is a survey of US families conducted every three years and sponsored by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System with the cooperation of the US Department of the Treasury.
According to the SCF, a household unit is separated into a primary economic unit (PEU) – the family – and everyone else in the household. The PEU is intended to be the economically dominant single individual or couple and other individuals in the household financially interdependent with the economically dominant individual or couple. The survey also designated a reference person within the PEU to organize the data consistently. For example, the age and educational classifications assigned to families in the survey describe the age and education of the reference person.
This report also includes the results of a proprietary national online consumer survey of US adults (age 18+). This Freedonia Focus Reports National Online Consumer Survey has a sample size of approximately 1,501, screened for response quality, and representative of the US population on the demographic measures of age, gender, geographic region, race/ethnicity, household income, and the presence/absence of children in the household.
Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided with quantified trends. A full outline of report items by page is available in the Table of Contents
